Okay, so this morning in my devotions, I was reading Acts 7, and it just really impacted me. Here's how.
So Acts 7 is all about Stephen and his trial before the Sanhedrin, because some jerks didn't like him and had some other jerks witness falsely about him and said he was blaspheming. So he (Stephen) in his defense, started preaching and giving the Sanhedrin a history lesson. So he started out at Abraham, and started telling Jewish history, and then at the end of his speech, he said "You stiff necked people, with uncircumcised hearts and ears! You are just like your fathers: You always resist the Holy Spirit! (verse 51, NIV) So they were really ticked off about that, and were about to grab him'n stone him, when he looked up, and say Jesus standing on the right hand of God. So he's like, "I see Jesus standing on the right hand of God!" And then the Sanhedrin just go berserk when he says this, and grab him, take him out of the city and stone him. But the funny part is how they do that.
Acts7:56-57: "Look," he said, "I see heaven open and the Son of Man standing at the right hand of God." At this they covered their ears and, yelling at the top of their voices, they all rushed at him.
So I find the part that says "They covered their ears and, yelling at the top of their voices" hilarious. I mean, it's like they ran at him covering their ears yelling, "NANANANANANA! I CAN'T HEAR YOU!" Which is totally ridiculous, especially since they were full grown men, and very important in the Jewish culture. But what really impacted me was the fact that still, after Stephen's excelent message, they absolutely, point blank, refused to accept that they were wrong and needed to change. That just reminded me that I can't be proud and refuse to change, it would just be disasterous to my walk with God. So that was a really neat story & encouragement for me today.
So I guess that's it. bye for now!
